Skywatch Friday: Welcoming Dusk
My very first entry to Skywatch Friday.
I love to take photos of skies, sunsets/sunrise and I’ve amassed a neat little collection of these photos from different places. I figured, perhaps I would share them here too.
This photo was taken in Cavite Philippines where we lived for a couple of years. I always love the sunsets there. It usually is brilliant and dramatic no matter the weather.
Random Street Scenes in Daejeon Korea
It has been awhile since I have made any updates to this blog. I had been swamped with work and some travel so here I am a few months late. My photo archive is brimming full of photos I hardly know where to start sharing. So I’m just going to be random. I love taking snapshots of scenes, everyday, street scenes. It allows me to have a feel of the place I visited and take home that impression with me when I go home.

One of the recent trips I made was a few days visit to Seoul and Daejeon City Korea. It was my first time to visit Korea and I was impressed. In a way that the place made a lasting impression on me. It’s a busy, progressive, colorful country. And they have a very distinct culture and national identity that its just a pleasure to observe and learn more about their culture.

My visit was just a short working one, but it was a fascinating glimpse at this Asian country on the fast track to being a world economic powerhouse.
It’s also a very hip place, and I observe young Koreans to be very fashionable and expressive.
These are some photos I took while strolling the streets of Daejeon City.
Interesting Statues in Baguio Botanical Gardens
One country where I lived in is the Philippines. In fact, I lived in Manila for almost a decade! And my in-laws are from there. So I got the chance to travel there in a lot of places and I bet I will be visiting it more times in the future. It’s like a second home for me now.
My family likes visiting Baguio City, Philippines. It’s located in the northern part and in the mountainous region. In fact, the city is actually sitting on top of some mountains. It’s pretty interesting to visit because the location is different, the weather is cool, and the culture of the Igorots is refreshing different.
One popular tourist place in Baguio is The Botanical Gardens. And what really caught my eye? The giant statues of native Igorots.

I’m back to updating the blog. Hope I could keep it up. I’ll be sharing mostly just snapshots and some snippets as I am usually pressed for time.
We had a chance to visit a not so well known temple in Takeo Province. Here in Cambodia there are literally thousands of temples. Most people know just Angkor Wat, Bayon etc. But there are lesser known temples scattered all over the country. Fortunately, the school had a field trip and we visited an ancient 11th century temple atop a hill called Phnom Da. The Phnom Da temple is located at Angkor Borei District, Takeo Province.

Please excuse my sporadic posting. I had been very busy with work and also I still have to organize the photos I want to post. Photos I’ll be featuring is now being edited by Lui, my wife. She has a thing for Photoshop and has been tinkering with my photos. She had me convinced my photos needed some tweaking before being sprung on an unsuspecting reader. Hmm, the photos looks that bad, I wonder?

Interesting Koh Kong Figures and More
Last year, April 2010 I joined a group of my students again for a community service. These noteworthy students call themselves KYGM or the Khmer Youth Goodwill Mission. Composing of young Cambodian students, their aim is give goodwill by helping their fellow Cambodian students in far flung areas and also to educate themselves culturally and historically. Traveling to be more familiar with the Khmer culture and to see what the beautiful countryside is all about.
Our destination that time was Koh Kong province located at the southwestern portion of Cambodia and adjacent to Thailand. This province is noted for its natural sites, lonely stretches of beaches, National Parks, islands, mangrove etc.It is also often referred to as Cambodia’s Wild West but recent changes to the city and province, I believe is making it now shed this image.
I had been to this province on several occasions already, but I still find its natural beauty fascinating. Another different thing about this trip is a short visit Wat Neang Kok. This is located somewhere in between the Koh Kong Bridge and before reaching the Had Lek border. Definitely not on the average tourist trail but I found myself fascinated by the interesting statues lining the shores and also the rock formations.

Welcome to my blog site – Khmer with a Travel Bug. My name is You, as you might have noticed on my domain name, but I realized using my name as a blog title can cause confusion which frequently happens whenever I travel, so I’m opting to use Khmer with a Travel Bug.
Yes, I am a Khmer or Cambodian. And I have an itchy feet. I like traveling and I’m fortunate enough that my work takes me places. This blog is where I’ll be sharing mostly photos of my travel as well as observations and experiences I had on certain places.
